On Friday the 13th, a day known for its spooky vibes, the energy inside Uxbridge Music Hall was anything but eerie. My Son the Hurricane, the 12-piece brass-fueled group, brought the house down with their signature blend of funk, jazz, and hip-hop. Presented by Music By The Bay Live, this show was a perfect fit for the day – lively, unpredictable, and full of good vibes.

The intimate venue buzzed with excitement as the band filled the room with infectious energy, making it a night to remember. Friday the 13th never felt so fun!

This was my second time covering The Script, and they continue to hold a special place in my heart as one of my favorite pop rock bands. The last time I saw them was at Massey Hall in April 2022, and once again, they proved why they have such a dedicated fanbase.

Just a few days before their headlining show at History, The Script had opened for Pink at Rogers Centre. Many fans who witnessed that performance rushed to catch them again, eager to experience a full set from the band. The crowd at History was treated to a dynamic mix of classic hits and new tracks from their latest album, Satellites.

Despite the relentless rain, the Budweiser Stage in Toronto was ablaze with extraordinary Canadian talent. The evening kicked off with the soulful melodies of Canadian folk singer-songwriter Akhinoah Habah Izarh, better known as AHI. 

Following AHI, the stage welcomed the electrifying Colin James. The Canadian rock singer-songwriter needed no introduction, and he had the crowd energized from the very first note of his opening song, 'Voodoo Thing'.

The night culminated with a performance by the headlining act Amanda Marshall. The Canadian Juno Award-winning pop-rock singer took to the stage with an ironic twist, opening with a fitting song, 'Let it Rain'. 

A night to remember despite the downpour.

Meshuggah, the vanguards of Swedish extreme metal, descended upon History on December 15, 2023, delivering a performance that can only be described as mind-bending. The night, already charged with anticipation, featured a formidable opening act in the form of special guest Inflames, another Swedish heavy metal juggernaut that had graced Toronto back in September 2022, and deathcore metal band from Knoxville, Tennessee, Whitechapel.

Unfortunately, some of the media was not allowed to shoot the first opening band, Whitechapel, but word on the street painted a vivid picture of a performance that was nothing short of explosive.

Inflames took the stage, proving once again why they are revered in the metal community. The band delivered a potent set that served as a power prelude to the main event.

And then, Meshuggah emerged, an uncompromising force ready to conquer History. Frontman Jens Kidman's guttural vocals cut through the musical onslaught, captivating the crowd.  The guitarists, bathed in ethereal glow, executed their technical wizardry with a precision that seemed almost otherworldly. Drummer Tomas Haake proved once again why he stands as an unparalleled force in the realm of extreme metal drumming. The Dimly lit stage played a pivotal role in shaping the immersive experience of Meshuggah's performance, perfectly aligning with the thematic depth of their ninth studio album, Immutable.

When the stars align and musical talents converge, it's an experience to be cherished. Such was the case on a magical night that brought together a constellation of Canadian musicians to Budweiser Stage.

Regrettably, unforeseen circumstances prevented me from documenting the initial two performances. However, commencing the night's proceedings was Tim Baker, an accomplished singer-songwriter hailing from St. John’s, Newfoundland, alongside the Canadian indie folk duo also originating from the same locale, Fortunate Ones.

Upon stepping into the venue, I found the crowd still streaming in, and serendipity favored me, granting the opportunity to capture the last two performances. Leading the lineup was Donovan Woods, originating from Sarnia, Ontario, followed by the illustrious Alan Doyle, a name synonymous with musical eminence and deserving of no formal introduction. 

This marked my third occasion capturing the vivacity of Mr. Doyle's live concert performances. The inaugural instance transpired when he graced the stage as the opening act for Blue Rodeo in August 2021, at this very venue. Subsequently, in 2022, I had the privilege to document his presence at the 37th Annual George Street Festival in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Last night Toronto witnessed a musical spectacle as two bands took the stage at History.

The evening commenced with the vibrant sounds of The Heavy Heavy, a talented band hailing from Brighton, UK. The band fronted by the charismatic duo of Will Turner and Georgie Fuller. Georgie's boundless energy on stage immediately won the hearts of the crowd and despite being the bands inaugural performance in Toronto, by the overwhelming response from the crowd assures me this won't be the last time we witness them grace a venue in this city. 

Then came the highly anticipated headliner. The Revivalist, an 8-piece American rock band known for their perfect blend of rock, soul and blues. Lead vocalist David Shaw, with his commanding presence and powerful voice instantly commanded the stage. The band's remarkable instrumental skills were showcased in all glory... Without a doubt, this ensemble's stellar performance is a must-see on their "Pour It Out Into The Night" tour, don't miss out.

There's a special kind of excitement that comes with attending a live concert, especially when it involves one of your all-time favorite bands. For me, that dream became a reality as I eagerly made my way to RBC Echo Beach to witness the legendary Danish rock band, Volbeat, perform on their 'Servant Of The Road' tour. Adding to the anticipation, Halestorm, a fantastic American hard rock band from Pennsylvania, was set to open the night. As a devoted fan of both bands, this was a momentous occasion that I couldn't wait to experience.

Halestorm took the stage, and from the moment they burst into their first song, 'I Missed the Misery' they captivated the audience. Lzzy Hale's powerful vocals resonated throughout the venue, leaving no doubt as to why she is hailed as one of rock's most incredible frontwomen.

After an electrifying performance by Halestorm and a brief intermission, Volbeat emerged, ready to conquer the stage. From the thumping beat and the opening notes of their first song, 'The Devil's Bleeding Crown' the fans were charged with undeniable energy.

Experiencing the raw power and passion of Halestorm's opening act, followed by the electrifying performance of Volbeat, left an unquestionable mark on my heart. I can proudly say that I checked off a major item from my bucket list that night.

It's moments like these that remind us why live music is an essential part of our lives.

The evening of live music showcased three incredible bands. Despite the intermittent rain, the spirits remained undampened as the resilient crowd arrived well prepared with beach umbrellas and rain gear. Determined to have a good time, they embraced the unique weather conditions and turned it into a night of fun. 

Kicking off Festivus was the house band, Voodoo Pawn Shop. Following the audience was treated to the soulful melodies and impressive talent of Maple Blues award-winning harmonica player, singer and songwriter Larry Kurtz & The Law Breakers. Budweiser Stage was buzzing with excitement as iconic English pop rock band Tears For Fears made their return to the stage while on their "Tipping Point Tour Part II. For the band, this tour was a significant milestone in their storied career, as the band's previous album, "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending," was released in 2004. Finally, in 2022 the wait was over as Tears For Fears unveiled "The Tipping Point," their long-awaited studio album.

Kicking of the evening festivities was Rivers of Nihil, a death metal band hailing from Pennsylvania followed by a progressive rock band from New Jersey, Thank You Scientist.  

Finally, the moment arrived when Between the Buried and Me took the stage, igniting a surge of excitement throughout the venue.

The heavy metal extravaganza commenced early in the evening, with doors opening at 5:00PM. Kicking off the night was Spirit World, a captivating death western metal band, who took the stage at 6:00PM. Following them was Death Angel, an American thrash metal band from California at 7:20PM. Finally, the two headlining acts, Kreator and Sepultura performed at 8:30PM and 10:00PM.

A Thursday night of metal music was truly spectacular, offering an incredible experience for all devoted metal fans.

Tom Wilson has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including multiple Juno Awards with both Junkhouse and Blackie and the Rodeo kings. 

On a warm sunny afternoon, the air was buzzing with anticipation as the crowd streamed into the Blues Holler. The meticulously organized parking arrangements catered to those planning to soak in the entire show. Armed with picnic lunches and their preferred libations, the enthusiastic fans eagerly staked out their spots in front of the stage. They were all set to embark on an unforgettable musical journey led by non-other than the acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter, Tom Wilson. 

Tom was joined on stage by Jesse O'Brien, a Juno award-winning producer/songwriter and his son Thompson Wilson, a talented singer-songwriter and musician who is now an integral part of Lee Harvey Osmond - A remarkable Canadian Psychedelic folk project fronted by Tom himself.

The first set delivered an engaging performance. However, what truly set this experience apart was the seamless integration of his bestselling book, Beautiful Scars. With every note and every work, Toms's magnetic presence enveloped the crowd, creating a profound connection that transcended the boundaries of music and literature.

Following a brief intermission, Tom returned to the stage accompanied by an awe-inspiring 8 piece symphony. The symphonic arrangements breathed new life into his music, the blend of the symphony and Wilson's composition was nothing short of transformative, leaving a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to witness this symphonic enchantment.

Canadian grunge, alternative rock band Softcult played a sold-out show in Toronto. It's always exciting to see a band sell out a show at their favorite venue, apparently Solftcult debuted at Drake Underground about a year ago. The fact that this was the last leg of their North American tour also added excitement to the mix.

Opener for the night was grunge pop band from Toronto, PONY. Heads up, PONY are holding an album release show for their new album 'Velveteen' on May 26, 2023, at The Drake Underground. Remember to check their socials for more information.

The concert featured three different acts, each bringing a unique sound to the stage. The show started with Carly Cosgrove, a trio from Philadelphia. Their performance set the tone for the night and got the crowd excited for what was to come. 

Next up was Hot Mulligan, a pop punk band from Michigan. This band has gained a lot of attention over the last couple of years and definitely not to be missed. 

Finally, The Wonder Years, a six-piece band from Pennsylvania on their "The Hum Goes On Forever" tour. Thier music was a blend of pop punk and emo, fast and loud. They still have a few dates remaining on their tour which ends on March 26, 2023.

Sold out show at The Velvet Underground when British singer-songwriter Rachel Agatha Keen, aka RAYE performed her 21st Century Blues tour in Toronto. Opening the night was American singer-songwriter and musician Mike Sabath and the Moongirls.

American indie rock band Mamalarky took the stage as the first opening band for the night followed by hardcore band from Los Angeles Militarie Gun. Headlining the night was garage punk band White Reaper, they did not disappoint their fans while they played a sold-out show in Toronto on their 'Asking for A Ride' tour.

From Texas, a great performance by alternative rock band Blue October when they played The Danforth while on their "Spin The Truth Around" tour. Opening the night also from Texas was Beatnik Bandits.

American Metalcore band from Texas, Fit for a King took the stage in Toronto while on their Hell We Create tour with special guests Kingdon of Giants, Alpha Wolf, and Northlane.

Original Talking Heads keyboardist and guitarist Jeremiah Griffin Harrison, aka Jerry Harrison along with American musician, singer-songwriter and guitarist Adrian Belew did a pit stop in Toronto. The duo is on their "Remain in Light" 2023 North American tour which started on February 16th in Denver Colorado and ends June 20th in Tampa, Florida. This is not a show to be missed, the show sold out in Toronto.

Opening the night was talented Miina, singer-songwriter from Finland, currently based in Toronto.  Miina's music is known for its blend of folk and Pop influences, she has been praised for her emotive and soulful voice which is warm and brings her lyrics to life. Her performance was dynamic and engaging, with a sense of intimacy that draws the audience in.

Next on the bill was The Darcys, a Canadian rock duo who have been active since 2007. They are known for their experimental approach to rock music, incorporating elements of electronic and ambient music into their sound. Their performance at The Danforth Music Hall was energetic and captivating.

Headlining the night was a Canadian alternative indie band hailing from Toronto, Bedouin Soundclash. The band is on tour promoting their new album "We Will Meet in a Hurricane". They definitely have a unique sound which draws from different genres. Their fusion of reggae, rock and punk elements has garnered them a lot of attention in the indie music scene, both in Canada and internationally. One of my favourite albums is "Sounding a Mosaic" which features their hit single "When the Night Feels My Song".

One of the things that sets Bedouin Soundclash apart is their ability to create a connection with their audience, which is a testament to their skill as performers and musicians.

Overall, the lineup at The Danforth Music Hall was diverse with an exciting mix of different genres and styles.

Toronto rock band The Beaches consisting of Jordan Miller (lead vocals and Bass), Kylie Miller (guitar), Leandra Earl (Keyboards and guitar) and Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums, percussion) kicked off their first of two days back to back shows at History. The Beaches brought their high energy game to a sold out show last night and I'm sure its going to be another rockin' night at History today. Opening the night was also a Canadian blues rock duo from Windsor, The Blue Stones...

For the week leading up to the Royal St. John's Regatta, George Street is gated off with an outdoor concert scheduled each night. Concert goers can usually expect a few big names in Canadian music. Each night tends to have a theme with similar acts grouped together. 

The best thing about the George Street Festival is that your concert ticket gets you access to all of the bars on the street with no cover charge. You can also walk down the street with your drink as long as it's a plastic cup. And if concerts are not your thing, you can show up after 11pm and pay a single $15 cover to get access to 15 bars.

One caveat, if you leave George Street at any time you won't be able to re-enter without a new ticket.
