The Pogues at History in Toronto on September 10, 2025The Pogues Light Up Toronto's History with a Celtic Punk Celebration On September 10, 2025, Toronto’s History venue was electric with the raw, rebellious energy of The Pogues, the legendary Celtic punk band, as they took the stage for a near-sold-out show presented by Live Nation. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of their iconic album Rum Sodomy & the Lash, the band delivered a performance that was both a nostalgic tribute and a fiery testament to their enduring influence. With New York City’s The Cardinals setting the tone as the opening act, the night was a vibrant collision of punk grit and Irish soul. The evening kicked off with Cardinals, a New York City-based post-punk and indie-folk outfit known for their gothic-tinged EP and poetic narratives. Their set was a perfect complement to The Pogues, weaving together gritty rock, shoegaze textures, and hints of Irish traditional folk. Songs like their haunting originals captivated the crowd, their moody soundscapes building anticipation for the headliners. As The Pogues took the stage, the near-capacity crowd at History erupted. The band, joined by an all-star ensemble including James Walbourne (The Pretenders) on guitar, Jim Sclavunos (The Bad Seeds) on drums, and a brass section featuring Pete Fraser, Daniel Hayes, and Ian Williamson, launched into a full performance of Rum Sodomy & the Lash.
