Ocean Alley and Bird and Byron Light up History in Toronto

Last night, July 29, 2025, Toronto’s History venue pulsed with energy as Ocean Alley headlined a sold-out show, with Bird and Byron setting the stage ablaze as the opening act. The Australian psychedelic-surf-rock outfit delivered a night of unforgettable music, good vibes, and a crowd that couldn’t stop moving.

Kicking off the evening, Bird and Byron, took the stage with a performance that felt both nostalgic and fresh. Their set was a masterclass in atmosphere, blending beachy, laid-back vibes with gritty, soul-infused energy. 

Ocean Alley opened with the iconic guitar riff of “Tangerine,” the six-piece band—Baden Donegal (vocals), Angus Goodwin (guitar), Lach Galbraith (keys/vocals), Mitch Galbraith (guitar), Tom O’Brien (drums), and Nic Blom (bass)—commanded the room with their signature blend of reggae, alternative, and psychedelic rock. The lighting, a mesmerizing halo around each member, amplified their glowing presence, making it impossible to stand still.

The setlist was a journey through their discography, with highlights from their 2022 album Low Altitude Living and fan favorites like “Confidence,” which famously topped triple j’s Hottest 100 in 2018. Each song was delivered with faultless musicianship, the band’s dynamic live performance living up to their reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting musical exports. 

With Ocean Alley’s fifth album, Love Balloon, set to drop in mid-September, the anticipation for their new material added an extra layer of excitement to the night. Their North American tour continues to gain momentum, with upcoming stops at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, proving their unstoppable rise. Bird and Byron, too, are carving out their own path, with their soulful sound making waves across the continent.
